Eight.
I was tagged by Catsy!
Firstly, the rules:
Each player starts with eight random facts/habits about themselves.
People who are tagged need to also post these rules in their blog.
At the end of your blog, you need to choose 8 people to be tagged and list them.Send an email telling them they are tagged or leave a comment doing the same. (I'm not gonna pester anyone with an email or comment. I'll just list a few at the end.. ;P)
8 Random facts/Habits about me.
1: I love fighting games: Street Fighter/Capcom Vs. ________, Soul Calibur, even Mortal Kombat games (not so much SNK games. They feel too "flat" to me. Something's missing. And the center of gravity feels off or something. Anyway...), but i suck at them. I mean, really suck. Even on lower difficulty settings, i usually lose once or twice before i beat the final boss, and i can hardly beat anyone i play, even if they never play the games. But they're so much fun, i probably play them more than anything.
2: I've been watching anime for 29 years. At least. I remember watching "Battle Of The Planets" in daycare. I stopped going to daycare when i was four. I watched Speed Racer as a little kid, too. I liked these shows, and i remember they seemed different than other "cartoons" i watched. When Voltron came out, i loved it. I came across a show called "Tranzor Z" (aka Mazinger Z in Japan, a giant robot anime, complete with a female robot with missles for "breasts") on a channel that didn't quite reach our area, and i liked it so much, i watched it religiously, even though the station was very staticky, and almost not-visible because it was too far away. When Robotech came out, i recognized the style immediately, and it became an obsession. I even wrote a journal of what happened in each episode after it aired, because, not having a vcr back then, it was my only way of keeping a record of the episodes. When i started going to comic cons in '89 or so, i started hearing about something called "Japanimation" and realized that's what they called the kind of "cartoons" i liked. I bought bootleg copies of "Akira", of "Dominion: Tank Police". I was quite surprised to see violent, bloody deaths, and colors i'd never seen before. I was also quite surprised to see cat women doing a comedic striptease to escape capture by police. Especially since my mother was in the room watching with me. I cringed. She laughed. She didn't mind.
By this time i was hooked, and the word "anime" slowly started replacing "Japanimation", but i was already a big fan. By 1990, i was the only person i knew who knew what anime was, much less was into it. I'd say that makes me pretty old school, considering there are people who can legally drive cars now, who weren't born yet when i was watching Kaneda ride his awesome bike though the streets of Neo Tokyo. I had a few movies, a few manga translated into English comic book form, a Robotech art book or two, some Robotech toys... I was drawing Japanese-style robots - ahem, mechs - in class at school (actually i was doing so back in the Tranzor Z/Voltron days) and getting in trouble by the teacher/known by the other kids for it. Nowdays, it seems that half the animated programming on television originates from Japan. Back then, i was lucky to find a guy selling bootlegged vhs tapes of movies at a comic con.
3: I love the 80's. But i didn't always. My mom taught Disco dancing lessons at a local dance club when i was little. She had a massive collection of vinyl 45 records, of almost any single that came out, which she didn't stop collecting when disco "died". I grew up hearing every friggin' 80's song you can think of, over and over. (Well, everything but metal, really, though that creeped in a bit, too.) I hated it. it annoyed me. It was my mom's music, and i didn't like it much. Truthfully, i didn't like much music at all as a kid. Didn't interest me. But eventually (in my 20s), gradually, i started realizing there was a lot of that stuff that i remembered that i either admitted i liked, or grew to like, or something. Regardless, a huge chunk of my playlist and CD collection now is from bands that peaked in the 80s, had just one hit in the 80s, or just did some great stuff back then.
4: I don't read any more than i do because reading makes me sleepy, quickly. If i want to be awake, i can't read, and it's hard to read once i've fallen asleep, so i don't get as much reading done as i'd like. ;P
5: I don't have a favorite food. If you ask me what i like most, i couldn't tell you, though there's not much i don't like. I guess i like variety, and would rather eat something i've never had than stick to one thing i like more than other things. I do tend to love seafood, though.
6: The first thing i can remember drawing is some Masters Of The Universe character. I looked at a toy/figure i had in 4th grade, and copied its muscles. From then i just kept drawing cartoon characters, anime characters, super heroes, G. I. Joe characters... Basically anything that had an action cartoon and toy line, i drew it. I guess sometime along the line, i started making up my own characters, but i don't remember when, exactly.
7: Hollywood gossip offends me. Okay, maybe not offends, but i can't understand why people care so much about "famous" people so much, or why there are so many tv shows and magazines devoted to the subject, or why people spend so much time discussing people who haven't done anything more important than be in a movie. It's not that i'll get mad, or not like someone if they idly talk about these things, i just don't understand why it seems to be such a huge obsession in our society when there are so many more important things to think about, and i pay very little attention to it. Most times, i don't know who is being talked about on tv, other than recognizing a name. I'll have no idea what they've actually done. (I suspect that's the case with a lot of people who talk about them, too, though. They're just names that go with the gossip.) It annoys me most though when a news broadcast will actually report about these "celebrities". It's not news. There are wars going on. I don't care who adopted what or married who.
8: I wish more things came in a vanilla flavor. Gum, cereal, soda, candy cookies, whatever. I don't mean "plain". Plain isn't a flavor. (Pet peeve: Kids who called white milk "vanilla" in school. It's not vanilla. It's unflavored. Actual vanilla milk is delicious.) I want a vanilla candy bar. I want vanilla gum. I want vanilla hard candy. I want any cereal with the word choco- or cocoa- in it to have that replaced with 'nilla- (Cripes, 'Nilla Pebbles please?! Someone? Anyone out there reading this who has the power? I'm begging. I'd go fairly cuckoo-ish for some 'Nilla Puffs, as well.) I want vanilla donuts. I want vanilla muffins. I want vanilla M & M's. I want vanilla topping for sundaes. I want vanilla-chip cookies. Now i'm hungry.
Now, who to "tag"? No one will do it, i bet, but i'll tag:
Aeri, Rachelle, Darla, DoomPlague, Kelly... ...and you. Yes, you. Do it. Or not.
